Isa ideas and inspiration: don't miss the March 2017 issue of Money Observer

There is less than 50 days until the end of the tax year, so the race is on for investors to make the most of their stocks and shares Isa allowance. With this in mind the March edition of Money Observer is an Isa ideas special, providing plenty of food for those who are looking for ideas and inspiration.

First off, our cover feature takes a look at the 'Dogs of the Footsie', a strategy that Money Observer has been following for 16 years. Each year we assemble a portfolio of 10 blue chips with the highest yield and hold them for a year.

Although there's the risk an unloved company will remain out in the cold, the strategy has proved its worth over the years, with the Dogs beating the FTSE 100 index in 12 of the 16 years the portfolio has been running, which represents a 75 per cent success rate.

Heather Connon runs through how the Dogs managed to produce a total return of 43 per cent in 2016, nearly double the FTSE 100 gain of 22 per cent.

Elsewhere in our Isa ideas special Kyle Caldwell assembles a smorgasbord of fund portfolios that pay a yearly income of £10,000.

We also take a look at the mechanics of 'unconstrained' funds, and ask various fund experts to name their favourites, while our very own journalists and regular Money Observer contributors explain where they are investing their Isa allowance.

The March edition also contains an interview with Old Mutual's star fund manager Richard Buxton, who explains why he is sticking to his guns on UK bank shares.

We also take a look at the bull and bear points of investing in frontier markets, while our multi-manager panel run through which funds and investment trusts they currently favour.

The edition also names five lesser-known tax planning practices that all too often fail to be utilised on a broad scale. In a separate feature Danielle Levy outlines various inheritance tax tips.

All this, plus a special supplement that details Money Observer's 2017 shortlist of Rated Funds. This supplement is a concise directory of the entire Rated Funds list for 2017.

However, you can find much more information, including full performance tables plus extended analysis of each fund or trust's strengths and weaknesses and the manager's aim and approach, in the new 2017 edition of Your Fund Choices.

It also contains a wealth of investment ideas - for building Isa, Sipp and Junior Isa portfolios, combining Rated Funds with passive funds, and using Rated Funds to protect against inflation, for example.

It's available for £7.99 in all good newsagents, or by ordering online or over the phone (call 01795 414820 and quote YFC2017 for free delivery).

The March 2017 issue of Money Observer is on sale in shops and available digitally for subscribers now, so don't miss it.
