NGAM Investment Funds U.K. ICVC - Loomis Sayles U.S. Equity Leaders Fund N/A(GBP)

US Equities

New for 2018. Focuses on quality large companies

Loomis Sayles US Equity Leaders is managed by the US-based investment firm Loomis Sayles, a subsidiary of Natixis Global Asset Management. The UK-sold fund was launched in 2013, but manager Aziz Hamzaogullari has been using the same process with largely the same team since 2006, initially at Evergreen and since 2010 at Loomis Sayles. He runs a high-conviction portfolio of 30 to 40 stocks with a bias towards large companies. Together with six dedicated analysts, the team employ a seven-step research framework to identify those few high-quality businesses with sustainable competitive advantages and profitable growth, trading at significant discounts to their estimates of intrinsic value. The fund's sector and stock positioning can differ significantly from the composition of the benchmark. The contrarian nature of the fund means there is little overlap with the index, as demonstrated by an 'active share' of 80 per cent. However, this has not resulted in higher volatility compared with peers, as the manager achieves sufficient diversification by compiling a portfolio of companies with different business drivers. At least 80 per cent of assets must be in US companies. The fund had around 7 per cent in both Europe and Asia at the end of 2017.Morningstar rates the fund and its research-intensive approach. Jonathan Miller, director of manager research ratings, says: 'The strategy should hold up better than its average peer in down markets, helped by the team's focus on quality and capital protection.'
