Most-viewed funds reveal an international appetite.
Global investment companies are attracting the most attention from investors, according to figures from the Association of Investment Companies.
The trade body has revealed the top 20 most-viewed closed-ended funds on its website in the first six months of the year.
The organisation reported a record high in website traffic as investors clamoured to search out the best opportunities. And it is trusts in the global sector which are getting the most viewing time.
Money Observer Rated Fund Scottish Mortgage was the most-viewed trust in the first half of both this year and last. Undoubtedly its stellar performance has put it firmly on investors’ radars. Top-quartile over one, three and five years, it has returned an impressive 17.3 per cent over the past six months compared to a global sector average of 4.3 per cent.
Trusts in global sectors make up 55 per cent of the top 20 viewed funds on the AIC website, with UK equity income trusts accounting for a quarter of the list.
Some nine of the top 20 may well have attracted investor attention with their next-generation dividend hero status, including Edinburgh Investment and Henderson Far East Income. These are trusts that have raised their payout for more than 10 years in a row.
Annabel Brodie-Smith, communications director at the AIC, says: ‘It’s good to see that more investors are going online to get information to help with their investment decisions. It’s clear that demand for income remains strong, and investors are most interested in investment companies in the global and UK sectors.’
