Sterling ran into trouble this week as fresh data cast yet more doubt over the strength of the economic recovery.

With the election looming, political uncertainty growing and the credit ratings agencies cagey about the prospects for the UK's prized triple A credit rating, the pressure is certainly piling on.

As the pound yo-yos around the $1.50 mark, Interactive Investor looks at the issues affecting it and asks just where it will head in the coming weeks before Chancellor Alistair Darling unveils the Budget on 24 March.
