Natixis Investment Funds U.K. ICVC - Loomis Sayles U.S. Equity Leaders Fund N/A(GBP)

US Equities

Rated Fund 2018-20. Focuses on quality large companies with competitive advantages

A focus on quality and capital protection means Natixis Loomis Sayles US Equity Leaders should hold up better than its average peer in down markets. It is managed by the US-based investment firm Loomis Sayles. The UK-sold fund was launched in 2013, but manager Aziz Hamzaogullari has been using the same process since 2006, initially at Evergreen and since 2010 at Loomis Sayles.

He runs a high-conviction portfolio of 30-40 stocks (36 at present) with a bias towards large companies. Together with a team of dedicated analysts, he employs a seven-step research framework to identify high-quality businesses with sustainable competitive advantages and profitable growth trading at significant discounts to the team's estimation of their intrinsic value.

The fund's sector and stock positioning can differ significantly from the composition of the benchmark. At the end of 2019, its most significant positions relative to the S&P 500 index and in absolute terms were technology, consumer discretionary and healthcare. The fund was significantly underweight in financials, where it had just 4%. Its contrarian nature makes it significantly different from the index, but this has not resulted in higher volatility compared with peers, as the manager achieves diversification by compiling a portfolio of companies with different business drivers. At least 80% of assets must be in US companies.
